Family Forum - Help

By Laurence on 23/03/2007 at 23:02 Can anybody help me to understand the right way to enter people into a Pedigree, I can add a new person and i have, 10 so far, But i cannot see them as a Pedigree, When i open the Pedigree only the first three people are shown as a Pedigree, I understand that i must tell the program to add a father/husband to a Spouse, But i can find no way of doing that so they show up as a complete pedigree, There was one time that i see a add list, but then it vanished and as not been seen again. Can somebody spell it out to me ?.
Its so annoying i can build a Access Database All the forms and Pedigrees that i need to hold all my Hundreds of Family Members, And search on many different levels, But can i find a way to enter a Pedigree into this Program. NO. Help.
Yours Idiot.
By admin on 02/04/2007 at 15:17 Hi Lawrence
Not sure what you mean by pedigree
But starting from scratch
Step 1. To add the first person into your tree; Click on “Add a new Person”, top link blue box top right.
This will open an empty edit page. Add the name and details of the person you wish to add and click “Submit” (bottom of form) this saves the persons details to the database and opens the “Persons page”. You can return at any time to this page to edit the details using the “Edit This Person” link second from top blue box on the right. Or delete the page completely using “Delete This Person” second link from bottom left hand blue box.
Step 2. Click on “Add a new Person”. And add the next person to your tree.
Step 3. To relate this person to the first person choose a relationship from the blue box on the right Parents, Marriages, Divorces, Children, Adoptions or Custom Links.
Parents will allow you to relate to a father a mother or both. Using drop down lists of names or by entering the ID no. for the person
Marriages will allow you to relate a husband or wife. Again using drop down lists or by entering the ID no. for the person. You can also add place and date of marriage. (Dates can only be entered as a year (1883) or as a complete date (03/04/1883)
Divorces add divorces here. (Dates can only be entered as a year (1883) or as a complete date (03/04/1883
Children relate your person to a child here.
Adoptions will allow you to add adopted children (so children can have a Father and an adopted Father).
Custom Links will allow you to link any one to anyone else in your tree and record the relationship. Remember this is (unlike the other links) a one way link and if you link to someone, perhaps a lodger, you will need to click on the persons name to go to their page then on their Custom Links to enter the first person as his Landlord/lady. Having Custom Links makes it easier to link, for instance, the crew of a ship or the witnesses to a wedding.
The last link in the right blue box is Addresses. This enables you to record where your people lived; I find it useful for recording Census addresses
Hope this helps Mike
